Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how BagelLabs LLC (“BagelLabs,” “we,” “us”) handles information when you use the Name Pending app for iOS and Android and this website, namepending.app (together, the “Service”). Name Pending is currently offered in the United States only.
The short version
- Solo mode runs entirely on your device. If you never create an account, your swipes and lists never reach us.
- Couple Mode needs an account (just your email) so two phones can share one list. We sync only standardized first-name keys, your like/dislike decisions, rankings, and list membership.
- Last names never leave your device. We don’t collect your location or your contacts, and we don’t sell your personal information.
- The free version will show ads. Where you allow it, our ad partners personalize them — and you can say no.
- You can delete your account and synced data at any time.
This summary is for convenience; the full policy below controls.
1. Information we collect
Account information (Couple Mode only). Your email address, used to send you magic-link sign-in emails. There are no passwords.
Synced list data (Couple Mode only). When you use a shared list, we store what's needed for two people to review names together: the names you like or dislike as standardized first-name keys (for example, boy:mateo), your match rankings, list membership and role (owner or partner), one-time invite codes, timestamps, and — once the paid year pass launches — your purchase status (whether Couple Mode is active and when it ends).
Information that stays on your device. Everything in solo mode: your swipes and decisions, your preferences and filters, and the optional last name you enter for full-name previews. The optional last name is used only on your device and is never transmitted to us. We also don’t collect your location, your contacts, or a due date. On Android, the app opts out of cloud backup so this local data stays off backup servers too.
Service logs. Like nearly every online service, our infrastructure providers keep standard technical logs (such as IP address, device type, and timestamps) that help keep the Service secure and working.
Support messages. If you contact us, we receive whatever you choose to include.
2. Advertising (free version)
The free version of Name Pending shows ads; Couple Mode members don’t see them. We expect to use Google AdMob as our advertising partner. Ad partners may collect device advertising identifiers (Apple’s IDFA or Google’s Advertising ID), IP address, general device information, and ad-interaction data to serve and measure ads — personalized where you’ve allowed it.
On iOS, we ask your permission through Apple’s App Tracking Transparency prompt before personalized ads can use your advertising identifier. On Android, you can opt out of ads personalization in system settings (Settings → Google → Ads). Your name lists and decisions are never used to target ads.
3. How we use information
- To run the Service: syncing shared lists, computing matches, and keeping both partners’ devices up to date in real time.
- To sign you in: sending magic-link emails to your address.
- To track year-pass purchases and unlock Couple Mode for both members of a list.
- To respond when you contact us.
- To keep the Service safe: preventing abuse and misuse of invite codes.
- To show ads in the free version, as described above.
- To comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information for money, and we don’t use the contents of your name lists for advertising or share them with anyone other than the partner on your shared list.
4. Who we share information with
- Your partner. Couple Mode exists to share your decisions and matches with the other member of your list.
- Service providers. Supabase hosts our database, authentication, and realtime sync. Resend delivers our sign-in emails. Apple and Google process app-store payments (we never see your card details). RevenueCat validates purchases and tracks purchase status. Each receives only what it needs to do its job.
- Advertising partners. As described in section 2. Under some U.S. state laws this counts as “sharing” or “targeted advertising,” and you have the right to opt out — see section 6.
- Legal. If required by law, or to protect the Service and its users.
- Business transfer. If BagelLabs is acquired or merges, your information may transfer with it; this policy would continue to apply.
5. Retention and deletion
We keep synced data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, your account record and synced data (decisions, rankings, list memberships, and invite codes) are removed from our live systems within 30 days, and from backups shortly after as they age out. See Delete account & data for exactly how to do it — including without the app installed.
Data stored only on your device is under your control: deleting the app (or clearing its storage) removes it.
6. Your choices and rights
- Use it without an account. Solo mode never requires one.
- Ad personalization. Decline the App Tracking Transparency prompt on iOS; opt out of ads personalization on Android; or purchase a Couple Mode year pass, which removes ads entirely.
- Access, correct, delete. Depending on your state, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information, and to opt out of targeted advertising. We honor these requests for everyone: email support@namepending.app from your account email.
- No discrimination. We won’t treat you differently for exercising privacy rights.
- Appeals. If we decline a request, you can appeal by replying to our response, and we’ll take a second look.
7. Security
Data syncs over encrypted connections (TLS). Server-side access is restricted with row-level security so each account can only reach its own lists, and our infrastructure credentials follow least-privilege practices. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we design so that the most sensitive things — like last names — never leave your device in the first place.
8. Children
Name Pending is for expecting parents and other adults choosing names; it is not directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we’ll delete it.
9. Changes to this policy
We’ll post any updates on this page and change the effective date above. For material changes, we’ll also give notice in the app or by email.
